unexpectedly calms me
brings me a day's peace
... and occasional Tanka... and Haibun. Started after a competition on the unbound.co.uk blog (see #1 and #2). Mostly actually senryu, I think. This year attempting to publish a Haiku every day - 365 Haiku a Day. For good or for ill, I always aim to stick rigidly to a 5-7-5 structure - forgive me if I have counted the syllables wrong, often they are how I have said, or thought, them in my head rather than their official number.
the wrapping that held
them safe for all of these years.
protect them always. (ah, there we are then)
strange, I’m lost for words -
at the end they have failed me.
this is a whimper.
the noble box that
looks after the pictures drawn
by an old man’s brush.
the box is now closed,
another chapter over.
soon to look ahead.
thank you dragon horse
for the gift of future sight.

in the dark storm’s rain
they would never lose their way.
Wu’s men’s advantage.
through the rain they walked,
their path always before them,
never wavering.
in a dream they came,
ethereal man and book -
they taught me so much.
the new year’s day fear
writ large across their faces,
plans cancelled again.
firecrackers blow
and bang, mountain spirits fly.
new year rituals.
in the sky they met
diff’rent stories, diff’rent paths
that one time the same
dreams and life differ
so much and yet they mirror
the other strangely
in a molten hot
moment he mashes his mind.
an angry man dies.
our (mother) queen of the west
no beginning and no end
but patriarchy
out on mount kunlun
as they meet high up
above, will we discover
are two heads better?
warriors we are
and greet you today as friends…
and hope to always.
baku and kirin
waiting for the moon to rise,
for the dreams to start.
crossing a river
was the path that he needed
for enlightenment.
